Evaluating “Illuminting Care” – Set 3/6 hours
An In-Depth Study into the Pedagogy and Practice of Care in Early Childhood Communities
(6 part series) – Participants will analyze and critically examine the book “Illuminating Care” by Carol Garboden Murray in a 6-week journey of researching the pedagogy presented in the book and comparing those ideas with the experiences held by members of the group.

“Play, A Gray Area: A Critical Examination of Peter Gray’s Theories of PLAY”-Set 3/6-10 hours
Participants will critically examine and compare 10 Letters from theorist Peter Gray’s ongoing Substack series entries, with other theorist’s ideas on learning through play. During 3 group meetings, participants will choose a specific letter to compare and contrast with 2 other credible resources, noting similarities and differences.

Supporting Healthy Choices and Activities in Child Care – Set 2/3 hours
Investigate health, safety and nutrition aspects of running an ECE program. Discuss ideas for incorporating the USDA food program, wellness guidelines for children entering care, health department guidelines for cleaning and sanitation, and current FCC Health & Safety Review Checklist into your program. Share ideas with your families to encourage healthy living strategies.

Participants will examine Bureau of Labor and Industry (BOLI) laws relevant to childcare personnel, examine principles of supervision of staff, explore strategies for team-building, morale-building, and respecting diversity and individual differences.

“Incorporating Diversity into Your ECE Program”– Set 2/3 hours
We will examine our personal cultures and values and the impact that it has on creating our individual programs. Exploration of strategies to support families with emphasis on respecting diverse cultures and honoring individual family strengths. Exploration of the impact of culture values, attitudes, beliefs and/or biases on interactions. Participants will explore the effects of their own personal values/attitudes/beliefs/biases on all aspects of their program.

In this course we will investigate the NAEYC position statement on Advancing Equity in early childhood programs. Discuss and understand the terms surrounding equity and all that it encompasses. Participants will examiner the distinctions, similarities and differences among the types of special needs. They will explore the categories of disability in Federal Special Education Law. Examination of the distinctions, similarities and differences among the types of special needs.

Exploring Differing Abilities via Children’s Literature – Set 2 / 2 hours
Participants will discuss and explore children’s literature using a filter of inclusivity focusing on equity in regards to disabilities. We will also practice using the Children’s literature evaluation tool from the lesson

Playing Isn’t Just for Kids: Creating events that honor, connect and celebrate families & communities withing our ECE programs – Set 2 / 2 hour
We will be exploring strategies and tools to include all families in our ECE programs in order to make connections with other families, creating a stronger community of parents and resources as well as honoring family cultures and connections to needed resources. We will be exploring techniques to share with families how to support their children through play.

Building Connections with Families: A care providers role in helping families handle stress – Set 2 / 3 hours
Together we will examine family needs and stresses, exploring strategies to support families in stress. How to create and build positive relationships and communication pathways.
